Awards and Nominations
With a Little Help is proud of the loving, nurturing relationships we create with our seniors and we feel honored that others in the community have recognized us.
SMALL BUSINESS AWARD
With a Little Help was the winner of the Mayor’s Small Business Award in 2007. Mayor Greg Nickels announced the award winners with the following statement: “Local businesses provide the unique character that makes Seattle such a great place to live. They’re the economic engines that employ local people and provide services throughout our city — small business owners are my heroes.”
Every year ten small businesses in Seattle are selected on the basis of excellence in management, entrepreneurial spirit, customer service, and community involvement.
The Mayor’s press release said the following about With a Little Help Inc. and owner Marcia Ives:
“With a Little Help is a homecare service that provides assistance with the tasks of daily living and has the purpose of encouraging seniors and anyone with special needs to stay engaged in life and lessen their isolation. Marcia’s business has grown to a staff of 60 people, serving over 100 clients each month. They are proud to be a leader in their industry and deliver detailed loving care to the local senior population. Their business fills an important need in our community, and allows seniors to remain living in their own homes for a longer period of time. Marcia says, ‘I had a desire to make a difference, be of service, and to do a job really well.’ As her business logo with a heart illustrates, this is a heart-felt business.”
NELLIE CASHMAN FINALIST
The Women Business Owners’ Association selected With A Little Help owner Marcia Ives as a finalist for their prestigious annual Nellie Cashman award in 2009. Marcia was chosen as a finalist based on her entrepreneurial spirit, ethics and community spirit. When asked by the finalist committee to talk about her feelings about With a Little Help, Marcia said:
“With a Little Help was built around the ethics that I live by. Every business decision made and action taken is a reflection of With a Little Help’s core values. I started the company with the desire to provide absolutely the best care possible to individuals who deserve absolutely the best care possible. We are entrusted with the health and well-being of people’s lives, and our reputation and success indicates we have earned that trust.”
ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION EXCELLENCE IN CAREGIVING AWARD
Each year the Alzheimer’s Association Western and Central Washington State Chapter sponsors an award for the professional caregiver who cares for someone with dementia. With a Little Help’s caregiver Sarel won their Excellence in Caregiving Award in 2007. This award offers recognition for the hard work, dedication and professionalism that caregivers provide across the Chapters twenty-three county region.
Some of the feedback Sarel received includes:
“Sarel’s ability to connect with mom is extraordinary. Sarel truly cares about mom. Mom can feel it. All of us can feel it, and there is nothing quite as comforting. Sarel listens to mom and responds to her in sensitive, nurturing ways.”
“Without Sarel’s care, I am sure mom would have continued to decline. Sarel lifts her up with such tenderness, creativity, and relationship-focused care. She is never impatient or denigrating in any way.”
“Thank you and congratulations on the Small Business Award. I can certainly see why you have received it. You are all phenomenal.”
